Jesus and the Gospels – Craig Blomberg

February 13th, 2007 · No Comments · Gospels

I just finished Jesus and the Gospels by Craig Blomberg. I was VERY impressed by this book. His structure, exegesis, charts, etc were fantastic. I would highly recommend this book to anyone doing a study of the gospels as a whole or even a particular gospel. He gives a good political, cultural and social background to the gospels. He introduces critical approaches that have been used to interpret the Gospels. He completes the book with a Survey of the Life of Christ that encompasses roughly 200 pages and walks you through each Gospel’s account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. This book is an excellent resource.

We used Blomberg’s book in our NT class. Very good book to recommend.

I like Blomberg as well. I like to read his reviews on the Denver Seminary Journal. My mom is studying with a small group (not in our fellowship) and she called with lots of questions about the reliability of the Gospels (and indeed the rest of the Bible). So I sent her Blomberg’s book on the historical reliability of the Gospels. I also sent her Strobel’s book, The Case for Christ. Blomberg is one of the scholars that Strobel interviews. My Mom has enjoyed both books.

BTW, I linked over to Internet monk from you earlier post. I like what I read about his views on inerrancy. We will have to explore that issue sometime in the future in our blogs.

Richard Baucham’s new book Jesus and the Eyewitnesses is another book you will want to read.
