David Lipscomb’s Conference on Preaching Gets a Thumbs Up

October 21st, 2009 · No Comments · Christianity, Church, Church of Christ, Preaching, Religion

I was happy to read this comment from Scot McKnight at Jesus’ Creed this morning, “This weekend I attended a conference at Lipscomb University on Reclaiming the Imagination and the focus was on Wisdom, wisdom literature in the Bible, and preaching. It was the best conference I’ve attended ever.”

That is quite a statement from a world renowned New Testament scholar who has been to and presented at numerous conferences around the country and beyond. I am very glad to hear this in reference to one of our Christian colleges from a Restoration Movement background. Read more of Scot’s comments on the conference here.

I’ve not been to one of these conferences since it moved to Lipscomb University but I attended several of them when they were hosted at Rochester College and they were excellent. I would like to attend one of the conferences again. What made the conferences so great was that they not only featured great scholarship and preachers both within and from outside the CoC but also that the conference was not just focused on head knowledge — the conference was interspliced with periods of worship. So it was as much of a spiritual renewal conference as it was a learning conference on preaching.

    Grace and peace,
