To be perfectly honest, after thinking and writing about churches of Christ in my 203 and 30s, I took a break in my 40s. There were some ducks I needed to get in a row with my ministry and I was exhausted going over the same issues over and over again.
The last five years has given me time to reflect on the church of my upbringing and the things I have learned over the last five years have really helped some things come into focus about churches of Christ that I am finally ready to share. I hope you are ready to receive it.
The book is called, “Restoring a Movement: A Hopeful Future for Churches of Christ” and I have set out to do a few things in this book that I truly hope will spark renewed movement in our churches.
The book starts of with 10 problems we are facing. These are not just symptoms. These are deep seated issues in our culture that need to be understood in order to not fix things on a surface level.
That is followed by 10 things about churches of Christ that makes me very hopeful. I am no longer as cynical about it all as I was 10 years ago. God is running the show and He has a great track record. There are great days ahead.
Third, the book has a series of 10 things we can do to turn back to renewal and growth. This will require some major adjustments and I have included tools that I have developed over the last five+ years (really much longer than that) in order to put the tools in your hands to get you moving toward solutions.
There is also a good bit of journaling, praying and collaborative conversation that the book prompts you to engage in so that by the time you finish reading the book, you will have some things to start doing and meaningful path forward.
