Review of the Expositor’s Bible Commentary – Revised (Logos Version) – BIG Discount!

Helped by this? Tell a Friend! ---->

If you are wanting to add an outstanding commentary series to your library at a huge discount, check out The Expositor’s Bible Commentary (Revised Edition). This set is by some of the leading scholars: Tremper Longman, Carson, Mounce, Garland, Kostenberger, Sailhammer, Kaiser, Hess, R.T. France, Garland, Boda, Youngblood, etc. These volumes consistently receive good rankings at bestcommentary.com and were written in the last 10-15 years. This is not the older set written in the 1990s that are dated at this point. They are not overly technical (some knowledge of Hebrew and Greek is helpful but not required) and are broadly evangelical and (where it matters) premill (which is not my cup of tea but I still love the authors included here where it doesn’t matter).

And here’s the good news!

This set happens to be 40% off just this month (June 2024!). Regular price is $500 – they are only $300 for the next two weeks. You can buy the set here…but first lets talk more about what is in this set and why I choose to highlight it.

What caught my attention about this set was the list of authors. These are some stellar scholars the majority of whom I have experience with and appreciate their level of scholarship.

Should you buy a whole commentary set instead of individual volumes?

It can be hard for a commentary set to be worth buying the whole set but here is why it is worth it in this instance. At 40% off and which such a large percentage of volumes being worth purchasing, it is worth buy the entire set, imo…because if you bought just the best ones it would cost more than the whole set during this June sale.

Here are some details and observations about this set that make it stand out to me:

  • This series is based on the NIV and from the Hebrew and Greek texts.
  • Doesn’t require knowledge of Hebrew or Greek to understand this set.
  • This commentary set offers a verse by verse commentary of each book of the Bible in a straight forward manner. It starts each section of scripture with a section overview and then verse by verse commentary.
  • It is by leading scholars
  • It was created in the last two decades so it has up to date research
  • Nearly 12,000 pages of content
  • All with Logos functionality – searchable, ties in with your lexicon, etc.
