He had tears in his eyes.
I asked him why he seemed so sad and he said he was happy…he was happy because God’s people had taken notice of him and helped him. He felt so much peace. He said he didn’t need to look over his shoulder to see who was trying to hurt him.
I asked him if he normally lived looking over his shoulder and he said…yes, he did.
But now, he said, he was safe and the tears continued to stream down his face.
I can’t get into his whole story but he had been running from God and had finally given up.
When he finally gave up the running away and collapsed into the arms of Jesus, it was the Jesus people who were there to catch him and get him back on his feet.
This is church. This is Gospel. It isn’t the whole of either of those two things but it is quite a lot of both.
I met a man today…and I was reminded of the power of the good news about Jesus and the goodness of His people! It made me so thankful to be a follower of Jesus.
