Missy and I started doing blessings with Jonah. We have started with Number 6:24-26 which reads,
“The LORD bless you
and keep you;
25 the LORD make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
26 the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
Missy went first. She recited the blessing to him and he listened. The very next day I gave him a blessing but I accidentally switched the last line in my head out with “and give you rest.” Jonah immediately said, “Mommy says peace.” Now that cracked me up. It is amazing how much a two year old is able to listen and remember.
Now we have been doing this a while and Jonah has started asking about peace. Whatever it is he thinks peace is, he wants it. Whenever I say this blessing to him now he says, “I want peace.” So I have tried to explain to him what peace means but I don’t think that abstract concept has quite sunk in yet.
We are trying to lay a godly foundation for these guys and it starts in some little ways that hopefully grow into bigger things down the road. I am not sure how much he is getting out of it quite yet but he sure is listening! We hope God will give us wisdom to lay a solid foundation for the lives of these two kids God has entrusted us with and pray that God will allow Jesus Christ to be the chief corner stone of their young lives.
