I had been discipling him for months. Mentoring. Praying for him and with him. Offering support and encouragement.
Then one day it all shifted.
He asked a question that I had never taught him to ask. I had asked him what I could pray for and after he answered he said something that was music to my ears,
“And what can I pray for for you?”
He GOT IT!
It didn’t come from a 30 minute lesson on how he should ask that or think that or do that.
He had finally come to the realization that he had something to offer as well…that it was mutual and reciprocal!
When we disciple people, what you do is even more important than what you say. This is why Jesus didn’t set up a lecture hall. Instead, he went out and lived among people…and changed the world!
When we read Acts and we watch what the disciples/apostles were doing – not all of it was directly commanded by Jesus but all of it was modeled by him in some way.
Now we are that model for others!
Spiritual growth is not just how much we receive from God and others but how much we give as well.
