that followers of Jesus are called to being servants, not masters. The problem is, too many people want to be the chief and claim authority for themselves. The problem is, church leadership isn’t about authority. It is about service because the only one who really has authority in the church is Christ, who is the head of the church (Eph 1:22, 5:23; Col 1:18, 2:10).
I can’t imagine seeing a church split over two sides with hearts dedicated to servanthood. Servanthood is disarming because people with servants’ hearts only care that Jesus comes out on top and aren’t in it for themselves. You can’t tempt them with power. You can’t tempt them with perks. They aren’t easily manipulated because they aren’t seeing things through worldly eyes.
The church desperately needs leaders who take Jesus seriously when he said, “the greatest among you will be your servant” (Mtt 23:11).
