Word became flesh – flesh becomes word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth…No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known – John 1:1-2,14,18

We have heard this verse many times. Most notable are the times we have a visiting preacher trying out for a preaching ministry who uses this homerun passage as the text for the sermon. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Living and breathing, visible and touchable, immortal to mortal. The Word became flesh and tabernacled with us. Why? Because the one who went from Word to flesh wants us to go from flesh to word. Listen to Paul’s testimony about the fruit of his ministry among the Corinthians,

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. – 2 Cor 3:1-3

When we engage in the process of spiritual transformation in each other’s lives our flesh takes on word in a way similar to how the Word took on flesh. Not that we become Jesus’ big “W” word but that through the Holy Spirit a message is written on our hearts showing that we are returning to who God wants us to be. Having God’s word in our hearts is more than memorizing a bunch of verses. It is a change in who we are as our lives become a living message shouring the glory of Christ to the world! Let your life show the world the message of Jesus Christ.
