You may have asked yourself, “What do all those crazy looking buttons on Matt’s blog mean? I thought I would share with you the wonders of RSS. For those of you who are not familiar with RSS, it is one of the best time-savers on the web. Anytime a blog post goes up it is published to a feed link that RSS readers pick up on. This means you can subscribe to your favorite blogs and when a new post goes up it will go get it for you. Instead of having to go through your bookmarks to your favorite blogs you just go to your RSS reader (like Google Reader or Bloglines) and they will show your whole list of blogs and which ones have new posts. You can then read the new posts from your RSS reader (which is just a webpage). You never have to type mattdabbs.wordpress.com (that is making a big assumption I know!) or whatever blog you find yourself typing. You simply go to one place to find all your favorite reads.
I am sure many of you incessantly click refresh here at Kingdom living in order to make sure you aren’t missing anything. If that describes you…click no longer! Just click one of the links to the left to either receive Kingdom Living in your email or subscribe to one of the feed readers. The other way to subscribe to any blog is to click the subscribe button at the top of your browser. For more specific instructions click here.

As someone who just recently jumped on the RSS bandwagon, I’m telling you non-converts, it’s wonderful. Instead of clicking through a bunch of blogs or news sites, I go to ONE site to get all my news: financial, political, spiritual, & blogical. I save SO much time & have so much less anxiety over perhaps missing something important.
Give it a shot. You will love it
Amen! I love Google Reader!
Now… what I want to know is if you had to register at all of those various readers or what?
make sense?
Different people like different ones. If you like google reader, which is one of the best, then there is no need to register at any of the others. I particularly like bloglines.
So you didn’t have to register with them to have their little icons on your blog?
Oh,
Nope. Don’t have to register. I can send you the code or you if you subscribe to feedburner they will give you some code to add those.
I may try feedburner again… it never worked right when I tried it before.
Matt, have you tried out Bloglines new beta version? You can actually see the real blog instead of just text. And you can comment on the blog in Bloglines, just as if you were at the blog’s web site. Cool.
Bob,
I didn’t know that. I will have to have a look.
I tried RSS for a while, but it didn’t seem to save me time, and I wound up skimming over articles that were actually interesting, but didn’t LOOK interesting when summarized in RSS fashion.
I’m not sure how both of these were true at the same time, but they were. I guess it just didn’t seem to filter and prioritize well for me, where my normal wanderings seem to do better.
I did click on a couple of your buttons, to see if there were any interesting new readers to try, and noticed that newsburst was decommissioned at the end of 2007.
