Five Reasons to Go and Make Disciples

Helped by this? Tell a Friend! ---->

The last post focused on five reasons people don’t make disciples. How about five reasons TO make disciples?

1 – You can help change eternity

There will be people who live eternally with God who might not have been there otherwise except God used you to reach them. Could there be any greater joy? James 5:19-20 says, “My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”

2 – King Jesus told us to

Jesus is King and his commission to make disciples in Matthew 28:19-20 started by him saying All authority on heaven and on earth has been given to me…go and make disciples.” Why would we not listen to him and obey him on this one?

3 – The Jesus Life is the Best Life

God designed us to live in community with himself and in harmony with other people. There is no greater or better way to do this than to follow Jesus. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Learning to follow Jesus is the discipleship process and God can use you to help people live the Jesus life. Wow!

4 – It Blesses You

There is great joy and blessing in walking with someone closer to Jesus. It is amazing to get a front row seat to see them learn, grow and be changed to be more like Jesus. You get to be with people through their ups and downs. It is an honor to be present with people in the midst of who they really are and who they are becoming in Christ! I can just hear the joy in Paul’s final words to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:11-21.

5 – You can impact generations and nations

Take one person who you disciple who disciples others who disciples others…the impact can be generational. It can also be international. Those you disciple may disciple people who impact other parts of the world. There are places you will never travel to who are influenced for Christ because you reached out. Two verses that come to mind are 2 Tim 2:2 (where four generations are mentioned) and Acts 2:39 – generations and nations). Again, wow!

Why do you make disciples? What would you add to the list?
