We Are Trying Out Potluck Worship (1 Cor 14:26)

With all the talk about biblical worship and a New Testament pattern for worship…there is one verse that actually describes their worship that is invariably overlooed. 1 Cor 14:26 gives us a coherent idea of what their worship looked like and yet you rarely to never hear it brought up. Here is what Paul wrote,

“What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.”

We are going to try this in November. When you come to worship, come with a song in mind or a prayer to pray…come with an encouraging word to share or a scripture to read. Come to give and to receive. You might consider trying this at your church. Let the Spirit move people through the week so that we can express what happened when we assemble on Sunday! This connects Monday-Saturday with Sunday in a beautiful way! I can’t wait to try it.

Have you ever done something like this? How did it go and what did it look like?
