Our Circumstances Have Changed But Our Purpose Remains The Same

The Coronavirus has certainly pushed the pause button on our regular routines. It is important that we take this very seriously and I want to say from the outset, this post isn’t an attempt to say this isn’t serious. Please take precautions and be wise.

Changing circumstances bring changing challenges and obvious opportunities. For instance, Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:10 that God has put good works here for us to do. This virus doesn’t change our purpose but it can change the application and specific opportunity. The challenges change but the purpose remains the same. Look for ways to do good in a time of trial.

Or take 1 Peter 3:15 where we are to have an answer about the hope we have for those who ask. We now have opportunity to open up that conversation that wasn’t as present or at least as obvious when life seemed normal and hope wasn’t hard to come by.

Assess your situation and consider your purposes. We are here to love God and neighbor. What does that look like this week that it didn’t look like last week based on changing circumstances and opportunity? We are to do good to all, Paul says in Galatians 6. What does that look like today based on new opportunities? Can you assist an elderly person in buying groceries to keep them from being exposed? Who are the least of these in the community who you can lend a hand to? They were there last week and last month but now all of these opportunities have come into focus.

Our purposes haven’t changed but our opportunities have become more obvious. Don’t miss them!
