  1. Christ the Holy Spirit spoke through the prophets and warned.

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony:
if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

The Testimony of the prophets is the Spirit of Christ (Rev 19:10)

Isaiah 50:10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
Jeremiah 4:23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
John 11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

Christ told us not to pay for the free water of the Word (Isa 55) and commanded us not to seek our own pleasure or even “speak our own words.” That is what Paul commanded for the synagogue (Romans 15)

If you follow that command, example, inference and historical record, you will grasp–with recorded history and the Restoration Scholars–that The Spirit OF Christ is that Spirit which belongs to Christ (prepositional phrase). Scripture makes it absolute that

    1Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him;
and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

    1. Ken,

Let me make sure I am reading you right…you are saying there is no room for Bible study materials/curriculum and just use of the word only. Right?

    2. If you prepare a study on the Holy Spirit (those I know about) by looking up verses with the “holy spirit in it” and then substitute that for understanding each of those verses in context, you prove that you haven”t read the context. For instance Tim teaches:

John 14:16-17; 20:21-22 None of the church of Christ writers can quote or maybe cannot eve see verse 18:

John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
John 14:20 At that day ye shall know
that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

Jesus died, was resurrected, glorified, returned to the Father (Who gives all spirits) and received that promise of A Holy Spirit “body” and returned on the day of Pentecost and “shed forth what ye see and hear.” When the Lord appeared to Paul He said “I am Jesus of Nazareth.” There is never (I think) any visitation of A Holy Spirit Person (a heresy says Paul Tillich to call God a person). He told Paul that he had to SEE and HEAR Him to qualify him as an Apostle.

The same John says affirms the unspeakable John 14:18

1John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate [Comforter] with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

Jerry also just lists some verses containing “The Holy Spirit”: Spirit means WIND and only figuratively of the BREATH of God (parables to fool the foolish). Spirit never speaks of a “people” but the mind or mental disposition of that spirit.

John Mark Hicks took not eof the rise of a NEO-TRINITARIANISM of the “incarnation” writers. However, consistent with the inventors of TRITHEISM (Lu: H. Leo Boles c. 1938-42) John has tried to twist Alexander Campbell into a trinitarian in which the godhead is “three distinct persons, each with their centers of consciousness.”

Probably half of the church of Christ preachers know better.

    3. Let me say one other thing about this thread. If you have issues with these lesson feel free to contact me about that. I don’t intend this post to be a graveyard of gripes and issues.

    4. No: there is no one capable of enhancing or predigesting the Word of God and because it violates direct commands throughout the Bible and church history before Constantine hired pagan priests to begin the act of preaching c.ad.400.

You will experience the meaning of a Disciple of Christ (only) when you paste whole chapters or thought patterns and define words out of the literature of the time.

The Spirit OF Christ existed forever: After the fall into idolatry at Mount Sinai He clearly defined the Qahal, Synagogue or Church of Christ in the Wilderness:

This was to REST from the typical Seventh-Day sun worship (In Jerusalem)
The command was to READ and REHEARSE the Word of God–
The Book of The Covenant made with Abraham never changed and ran parallel to The Book of The Covenant given when God sentenced them to return to Assyria and Babylon.

      https://www.piney.com/Synagogue1.html

John Calvin agrees. Reading and discussing the Text was always the commanded and exampled SOLE role of the Synagogue even when it became more Codified: Jesus exampled that by standing up to READ the assigned passage from Isaiah and then quite decently SAT DOWN for discussion.

Neither the civil Ekklesia or Synagogue or the religious Synagogue was permitted to write any material to be discussed–Aristophanes makes note of the exception when the women invaded the ekklesia with fake beadrs.

All of the examples in the epistles specify READING with one mind and one mouth “that which is written for our learning” which in Rom 15 Paul called Scripture. To most churches Paul proves that the Christ ordained elders as only pastor-teachers expelled all of the performing arts and crafts (Ephesians 4) and then defines what he often calls synagogue as teaching the Word of God only.

Not only was gilding the lillies of God’s Word clearly outlawed as Christ defines the future REST inclusively and exclusively especially in Isaiah 58 including outlawing “speaking your own words.” The true meaning of legalism is thinking that you can expend labor and enhance the Word of God. That is why if you UNITE people on the Word of Christ (John 17) you will be despised and rejected and even hurt.

Peter makes that absolutely certain which you can grasp only by reading the text line by line as it was written. He leaves it as a MARK to identify false teachers.

    5. “No: there is no one capable of enhancing or predigesting the Word of God and because it violates direct commands throughout the Bible and church history before Constantine hired pagan priests to begin the act of preaching c.ad.400.”

So what is it that you do? You don’t just stick with pasting biblical texts together. You interpret them. You draw conclusions from them. I don’t get how what you are doing is any different than what you are condemning.

    6. One great regret is not tying all of my research to Chapters in the Bible: if you search my site I have covered a great number. I have rarely quoted any proof text which does not include an annoying batch of “before” and “after.” Preachers have always been trained in the art of lifitng passages out by their screaming roots. They rarely follow the DIRECT COMMANDS, approved examples and necessary inference IF you want to be a school of Christ instead of a “worship center”

The difference is that if possible I NEVER quote anything to which I do not add a link to the REAL ancient scholar or to the definition of words: You can do the research for yourself. Scholars quote scholars and often interpret. For instance, you will never find any evidence that they followed the LAW OF GIVING: anything given was for the poor meaning destitue. Even those claiming to be apostles or prophets were given a few days to thell them what he knew that they didn’t know: then they got him a job or a ticked out of town (Phoebe would do that to you.”

I look up the words in high levely resource which shows how words ARE USED but never defined. The resource at Perseus lists how the words are used in Greek or Latin Text. If you read the existing text you grasp that Paul and Peter were writing to a highly enlightened group because they had attended synagogue or the theaters where the great epics and plays were repeated: Jesus was born close to a popular theater.

I quote parallel passages because Paul said that he wrote the same things to all of the churches. For the Old Testament the Babylonian Clay Tablets some 3,000 years old when Moses was born are ACCOUNTS to which Moses points with a straight finger.

I don’t preach, teach anymore or attend anymore: my fragile old body and mind does not need the punishment of drug-inducing “sanging and clanging.”

I have never taken a penny from any church and have given away a couple of retirements as an investment with the “lourdeee-uh” and watched two of them diverting the monies into their secret agenda as revealed by “a” spirit.

I always invite rebuttal and often learn from the process. Jesus said that doctors of the Law take away the key to knowledge: why do we worship doctors of the Law?

I thin I need to climb down off my pole setting but if you look at the small list of “progressives” you will find that it is diminishly small counting the number of congregations of the church. History will not be kind and I intend to write history. The problem is not just “left”: the “right” follows the same pattern: “Shall He find faith when He returns” the answer is almost none.

    7. Ken,

Let me respond to what you are saying here.

As I read through what you are writing here there are interpretations all over the place. Interpret just means to explain the meaning of something. Your comments and your website are chocked full of interpretations. The only way to avoid that is to just paste whole blocks of biblical text with NO explanation. You give tons of explanation and conclusions…that is interpretation. It may seem elementary to you but you still had to interpret the meaning of the text to write the vast majority of what you write.

So let’s just get over the idea that the Bible is not to be interpreted (ie. explained) because we are called to do just that. Any time you explain anything from the Bible you have moved into interpretation.

If you are going to stick with what you said you need to not offer any more explanations to the text. Just copy and paste scripture and let it speak for itself.

    8. That’s fine: Just give Christ a word in edgewise and READ the whole chapter or thought pattern: then explain anything that is not clear. That’s the INCLUSIVE pattern Paul commanded to Timothy: give attendance to the (public) Reading: Defining words and showing how the words are used in the ancient text is not “private interpretation” which would be out of my own head. You might say that translation is interpretation. Again, I don’t spin around the globe trying to force people to follow my views OR make me rich and famous.

1Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
1Timothy 4:11 These things command and teach.
1Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to [public] reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
1Timothy 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given
thee by prophecy [teaching], with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

1Timothy 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Meditate is “melete” where the meaning of musical melody is “melos”: we cannot sing and play a harp in our heart but we can meditate. Psallo never means “melody” in a tuneful sense in the Greek or latin text.

1Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

You can worship by falling on your face or now you can worship by meditating on God’s word IN the spirit as a place opposite to IN house or IN the flehs.

  2. Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly,
that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified,
    both Lord and Christ.

“The Holy Spirit” almost evaporates after the parts (meros) of each writer left a memory for after they died.

If you look at the salutations of the epistles it is clear that there is

    One God in Heaven
and One Lord Jesus Christ who inhabits His post-resurrection and glorification state. The Name of the “another Comforter” where Jesus says “I” will come to you is named Jesus Christ the Righteous. God’s Spirit is his “breath” to fool the careless Scribes and Pharisees:

John 16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. [As Holy (wholly) Spirit.]

1John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

John says that if you deny this Two-Fold relationship you are ANTI-Christ. No historical Scholar failed to grasp that because they “taught that which had been taught” that’s CENI

Paul warned about strong delusions when you begin to tamper with the Word: further expound or corrupt meaning selling learning at retail. Sorry bout that but that’s my “assignment.”
