You Are Special

In case you need some encouragement I wanted to share a few things from the Bible about how special you are.

God called his creation of mankind “very good” (Gen 1:31). You are made in God’s image (Gen 1:26). God knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). You are a temple of God’s Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). That Spirit is a deposit in your life guaranteeing the inheritance God has in store for you (Eph 1:13-14). God picked you  (Eph 1:4). God has redeemed or purchased you for himself (Eph 1:7). God has brought you from death to life through Christ (Eph 2:4-5). God has seated you with Christ in heavenly realms (Eph 2:6). You are a member of God’s household (Eph 2:19). God is working all things for your good (Rom 8:28). You have nothing to fear (Psalm 27:1). You are loved by God (John 3:16).

There are three things this list helps us understand. First, this list reminds us that it all starts with God. Scripture is so clear about just how much God loves us and just how far he is willing to go in order to rescue us (that what salvation is all about). But before we get ahead of ourselves and let these things make us self-centered it is important to realize that none of these things are things we did on our own. They all come from God. God alone gives us value and purpose.

Second, it helps us understand where our value comes from. Our value is not defined or determined by other people. It is defined and determined by God. Since our value comes from God, we shouldn’t believe anyone who tries to make us feel unloved or who tries to convince us we aren’t special. If God thinks we are special, we are special no matter what anyone else says or does.

Third, this gives us hope. Left on our own we would be in really bad shape. But partnering with God we see that life has value, meaning and purpose. We know with 100% certainty that we will live with God forever and that makes anything this life can throw at us that much easier to handle. Romans 8:18 says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Because God has made preparation for eternity we know that this world does not have the final say for our lives. God does. That should fill our lives with hope and assurance that everything really will work out for the good (Rom 8:28).

So be encouraged by these verses. Spend some time thinking about them and praying prayers of thanksgiving to God because He really does care for you!

  1. Excellent post! Far too often these points are not emphasized but they are throughly biblical and true. Thanks for sharing these truths. They are encouraging.
