Jennifer Knapp Comes Out of the Closet

Helped by this? Tell a Friend! ---->

I was disappointed to hear that Jennifer Knapp, Christian singer and song writer, is a lesbian. I love listening to her music and even have some in the car right now. Yesterday an interview appeared in Christianity Today where she talks about her decisions, relationship, and her music. There is so much I want to say about this but I will keep most of it to myself. I will just pray that she sees the truth and the incongruity of her statements, feelings, and beliefs. It is entirely possible to be “true to yourself” and be wrong. Sounds like she really is seeking the truth in this. I hope she finds it.

  1. NT Wright addresses the Polonius fallacy in After You Believe, doesn’t he?

The idea that “To thine own self be true, and it follows as the night the day, thou canst not be false to any man” worked very well as a guiding principle for the Enron guys

  3. Very disappointingly, the interview in “Christianity Today” reads mostly like a secular, shallow interview by the main-stream entertainment press. The lady obviously needs understanding & love, but not a platform which, practically unchallenged, she can use to change the basic morality of the young in the evangelical world. Rest assured, that is often the effect of a music star in our society: to change attitudes about basic matters without proper discussion. Much of what she says implies a necessary choice between accepting her way of life as legitimate or being an unloving, condemning person; between jettisoning what has been a basic Christian moral belief or being a judgemental, legalistic person. There is no discussion here of the physical effects of such behaviour, or of the attempt in the schools to subvert traditional Christian morality. We need discussion in a context that respects both love and truth, not mild acceptance of moral revisionism without proper challenges.
