We were having some inconsistencies in getting our sermons recorded on CD. The machine we were using had to be finalize the CD’s and often would fail to do so. This resulted in us missing roughly half our sermon audio to upload to our website. So we decided to look around and see what was out there. Joel, our youth minister, came up with the Zoom H4n Handy Mobile 4-Track Recorder and MP3 Player and it has proven a wise purchase. This thing is amazing. All you have to do is have it hooked into a 1/4″ or XLR output from the soundboard and you just hit the REC button to start and the stop button to stop. It makes 1 mp3 or wave file from the recording onto an 8 gig SD card that is easily uploaded to our website or burned onto CD’s.
What is more, all those old cassette tapes of sermons I have in a cabinet can now be easily converted to mp3. All I have to do is hook it into a headphone jack, hit play on the tape deck and record on this device…and there is my mp3! You can even edit the file on this thing before you bring it over on your computer. It can also be used to tape Bible class as it has two external, high quality, microphones so you can record in stereo.
For only $299 including an 8 gig sd card, you can’t beat it. This has also made things easier on the soundboard operators in not having to understand some complicated devices to record the sermons. All in all, very happy with this.
