States Need to Spend Stimulus Responsibly

Helped by this? Tell a Friend! ---->

Did anyone else think Obama telling states they better spend their stimulus money responsibly was funny? On the federal level they can spend money on mice and tattoos…but you states better keep close watch on how you spend it. I think we have gone insane as a country. I also cannot believe how we are selling our future down the river to try to get some momentary economic relief. And what happened to the pledge of no earmarks? In the middle of one of the worst economic downturns our country has seen our legislative and executive branches are approving thousands of earmarks that they promised they wouldn’t do. I guess we should know by now that no matter how much hope and change we are promised that in the end they are all just politicians doing what politicians do best…spend our money for us and hope we don’t ever see any of it ever again.

Sorry for the rant.

  2. Philip,

Obama has his mandate and he is letting Congress call the shots and is signing all the junk they are putting in front of him. He promised no earmarks and now doesn’t mind signing up for all of them because they are “last year’s business?” If earmarks are bad, they are bad. I hope you were right, that he would have better principles than the rest but I haven’t seen it yet. Maybe you can help me see something I have missed as I don’t have cable TV.

  3. – Show me where Obama promised no earmarks. According to Politifact, he promised less earmarks through a more exacting process of disclosure for earmarks:

    – It *was* last year’s business. If Obama took his stand on this, the CIA, FBI, NSA, ICE, ATF, and tons of other important government agencies would potentially shut down because they wouldn’t have the funding from that bill as required by the Constitution. That is highly impractical.
