College Students and Hooking Up

Helped by this? Tell a Friend! ---->

As we keep talking about here at Kingdom Living it is vitally important that we understand the culture that is all around us. If we are going to reach people we need to understand what they are going through. This is another video from the Song of Songs documentary group about hooking up. This video includes more interviews from Universities in the Southeast including the University of Georgia and the University of Florida. See the video here.

  1. Loved that!

Although, very creepy background music singer. The hissing & moaning was a little, um, “distracting.” ; )

My weird preacher brain couldn’t help but think about baptism. I’d never thought about it this way before, but I think that these two issues are examples of problems with a non-committal culture. A non-committal culture doesn’t want a marriage, and it doesn’t want (to borrow a book title) “a believer’s wedding ceremony.”

I love how this video really caught some honesty & openness. Even the shame shines through brightly, with the girls & the guys. You can sense their dissatisfaction with such a status quo.

    Really fascinating video

  2. I also find this topic interesting. As a guy this type of lifestyle is almost encouraged or revered; I know that it was drilled in my head by various influences. I thankfully did not live this way but I know several who have and they let me know how great it was in the moment, but that it left you feeling empty inside afterward. I think the vast majority are truly seeking a much more substantive relationship but either don’t know how to or are afraid of getting hurt. Too many kids are scarred by their parents’ ugly situation that they don’t want to risk being in that spot again. This is all the more a call to us as Christians to strive for a strong marriage so that we don’t leave our kids with such a burden.

  3. One fellow who was interviewed hit the nail on the head when he talked about sex being meaningless without the emotion. The mechanics of sex can be fun, but in the end leave a person completely unfulfilled. There can be “release,” but never true satisfaction, in an intense “hook up.”
