What recommendations for solid Bible class and small group curriculum have you used and would recommend? It seems like I am constantly reviewing different things and rarely find something I feel like will be effective. Things either go way too deep and have so much background material that they could never be used by the average teacher. Other things take way too much out of context and are full of fluff. I need something that is not theological over kill but also is very applicable. What have you used that has made a difference?

I’ve had good luck with 21st Century Christian’s curriculum. They have two series out that I’ve used: Life Links and Power Points for New Life. The Life Links has teacher books and student books. The teacher books have tons of great ideas; way more than you can use in each class period.
Power Points for New Life is just one book, but the cool thing is that they make a power point presentation that you download for free each week that corresponds with what you should be studying. You can edit it of course. It really cuts back on certain tedious parts of class preparation, so you can focus on other aspects of it. I really enjoyed using this series at Rose Bud.
I’m also a bit biased toward the Power Points series, because I contributed a lesson that they included for Spring 2008. It’s my first published lesson, so I’m rather proud. 🙂
I like stuff from 21st Century Christian because they do a good job of incorporating the latest research about how people learn, and I’ve found it easy to make their lessons work in ways beneficial to everyone.
Then again, you may have something completely different in mind. This is more the kind of curriculum you use on an ongoing basis. You might be looking for some that is on a specific topic or book.

We’ve tried curriculum in the past (children’s curriculum). We’ve found that there’s always more than we need and it is extremely expensive. About 10 years ago my wife and I started writting our own. We found we could teach through the O.T. one year and the N.T. the next. We also found that our teachers did a better job teaching when we simplified it. This worked in both places where I’ve preached. I don’t know if we’ll ever go back to using cirriculum again!
