Do Any of You Play Disc Golf?

One of my very favorite things to do on my day off (when it really is a day
off) is to play a sport called disc golf. Sometimes people call it “frisbee golf” but that doesn’t really do it justice. You aren’t just throwing some flimsy “Wham-O” piece of plastic. You are throwing state-of-the-art discs that have the potential of going well over 500 feet. The object is to throw from a tee pad down the fairway toward a steel basket. Everything is a par three. Basically all the rules and much of the terminology of golf applies. Because you are throwing a disc rather than hitting a ball there are a few other terms that apply that are not used in golf like “hyzer” and “anhyzer” and a few others.

Disc golf is a real official sport. There are even professionals and world championships. The 12 time world champion Ken Climo lives in my county here in Florida. I had the privilege to watch him play a few months ago. I digress. It is a blast. If you are wondering if there are any courses near you have a look at the professional disc golf association home page (PDGA). Now go get yourself some discs off ebay and have yourself some fun! If you want to learn more about technique, which discs are the best, etc see Discgolfreview.com. 1. How many holes per course? 18, like golf?

How much does it cost to play a round?

How many different kinds of discs do you have in your bag? I’m sure you have some for distance & some for accuracy…

How much would each of these discs cost?

Just trying to get an idea of how much cheaper this hobby would be compared to golf.

  2. 18 holes

    Free

I keep 20-30 discs in my bag but normally only use 8 different ones in a single round. You could do well starting with 5-8 discs.

The discs are free if you go to your local course, look for any alligators and then jump in the water until you find some. I have found probably over 100 discs that way. Just feels funny when something bumps you under the water. I am hoping those are large turtles. If you go to the store or get them off ebay you can get them for $5-20 each.

Disc golf is way cheaper than regular golf. Once you have your discs it is free.

  3. Disc golf I think is more fun that real golf except when I need to take out my frustration on hitting some balls at the driving range. ๐Ÿ™‚
& Yes it is cheaper than regular golf which is one of the reasons I love disc golf.
