Every time I hear an audio bite or a video clip of Barack Obama I don’t hear any policy. Not a single plan. I hear hope, hope, hope, change, change, change. He is running off a flashy image and charisma but I have no earthly clue what he would do as president. They say the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Given the fact that he has the most liberal voting record in the Senate what does that say about where he would take this nation?
Barack, educate us. Teach us how to achieve this lofty vision of hope you keep talking about. Stop telling us “Yes we can.” We get it. We can do it if we band together, break down walls, and shoot for the stars. But what are we aiming for here? You have convinced us we can pull the trigger on change but would you let us know what it is you want us to aim at? What is hope when you don’t know what you are hoping for? You say we can heal this nation. Yes we can, but how and from what? You say we can heal this world. Yes we can, but what is the plan?
I think the cry needs to develop past “Yes we can” to “Here’s the plan.”
It is nice that you have celebrities in your video like Jesse Dylan, Common, Scarlett Johansson, Tatyana Ali, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Kate Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Adam Rodriquez, Kelly Hu, Amber Valetta, Eric Balfour, Aisha Tyler, Nicole Scherzinger and Nick Cannon and everything. It is a nice start but the true mark of a leader is not found in the ability to formulate moving and timely speeches or celebrity filled music videos. The mark of a true leader is the ability to rally people together around a common vision that is backed by a realistic and well communicated plan of action and that, without the push and drive of the leader, might never have the momentum to ever be accomplished.
I bet Hillary Clinton is pulling out her hair that she is losing to a junior senator who is passing her in the delegate count based on charisma.

You can’t really argue with his success, Matthew. He focuses his message on the stump to vision-casting, and it inspires people to follow him. And, in politics, it’s really all about winning.
There’s plenty of substance there. He’s more than just an idea. And yes, he’s liberal, but I’m skeptical of all this business being released lately about him having the most liberal voting record. Smells like GOP propaganda to me. Republicans would LOVE to face Hillary; Obama, not so much. So it would make sense that they would attempt to smear his electability.

Well if all his points are to be found online somewhere then put him in the Bush camp. That is, the camp that has it all outlined some place but won’t tell you what is going on. Bush has been one of the worst communicators of his ideology on record. I don’t care for a second one of those. Barack is a good motivator and has good communication skills. The tools are all there but he needs to get serious about speaking more about the issues than about the hope. We get the hope part already.
For instance. He responded to an attack by McCain about his economic policy by saying something like, “I am flattered McCain sees me as the candidate.” He didn’t talk about his stance, didn’t respond to the content of the attack. Nothing. He just danced around it. Dancing works in Youtube debates but doesn’t work so well on the world stage.

I’m with you on this one Matt. His whole approach reminds me so much of Clinton’s in the 2000 election where all he ever said in response to anything was, “We’re going to build a bridge to the 21st Century.”
Obama makes an incredible speech. He sounds and looks presidential, but of the very VERY few things I’ve been able to find where he states his actual views and plans, I disagree with him down the board on pretty much everything. Not so much about what is important, but about how to handle what is important. I like him personally, but it scares me to think of him as a President. Then again, I don’t like McCain either, and though I like Huckabee’s personality, I don’t like most of his ideas.
Maybe it would be good for our country to have its first black president. It would mark some undeniable progress in civil rights. It may well happen, because I really don’t think John McCain was the guy to run against him.
It is my general policy not to talk about politics, so hopefully I won’t regret posting this. 🙂
On J.A. Wiser’s blog about 6 months ago I said that I thought McCain would never be president. I never thought I hoped I would be wrong. What I don’t get is out of 300,000,000 people in the U.S. you would think we could come up with some better choices than Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain as a presidential candidates. Is it just me?
