I Have Never Had a Cup of Coffee

It is true. I have never had a single sip of coffee. I once had a sip of some kind of crazy mixture of capachino that was full of all sorts of  non-coffee flavors but it wasn’t a real cup of coffee. I think it goes back to my childhood when my dad used to drink coffee every morning and I really didn’t like the smell. I figure I can’t really like the way something tastes if I don’t like the smell. So I have avoided it the past 28 years.

It is funny how we form opinions of things that we have never tried. We don’t like the way it looks or we saw someone else react strongly to it. How many have formed opinions about God, Christ, or church but have never spent time with any of them? Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” 2 Cor 2:15 says, “We are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” I wonder how many people have smelled the aroma and figure they won’t like the taste. Smell can happen without coming into contact with what you are smelling. Taste cannot.

  1. Matt,
You need to taste and see that coffee is good. 🙂
I like the way you make the connection.
    Great post.
But seriously you need a good cup of coffee.
Not McDonalds. It needs to be Starbucks or any other coffee house that knows how its made. If they offer french press, I would go with that. It will be worth the price, believe me.

  2. I agree with Preacherman. This IS a good post, AND you really do need to taste and see.

And people think you’re a minister. Gimme a break.

  3. I have never really liked coffee or rather what I had known as coffee. I have had some of the cappaccino stuff and it made me want to try it because it woke me up so fast. I was amazed and I know I would be a coffee fanatic if I started drinking. I think I have some kind of messed up internal clock because I am always sleepy and this sweet nectar that I drank ran that right off…..
I have had some of the cold starbucks coffee but never the real thing. I liked the way you connected the story though So does the capochino stuff count as coffee?

    great post
