Take Heart…Jesus Has Overcome the World

Christians always say, “You have to read your Bible. You have to be in the word.” One of the reasons for that is that there are times when your heart is going to be heavy and you need a word from the Lord to calm yourself down. When you are in the word, your repertoire of scripture most easily bubbles to the top when you most need it.

This morning, these words from Jesus came to mind for me. Maybe they will help you too. We get these words from Jesus in John 16:33, ” “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Now that is good news!

No matter what you are facing. No matter how hopeless it feels. Jesus has overcome the world! He still faced his crucifixion – hard things will still come at you from every side. But we know how the story turns out. We can indeed “take heart” in light of the fact that we know which characters are on the last page of the book and which ones faded out along the way.

The picture is clear on the last page – we are standing with Jesus, victorious!

I don’t know what is bothering you today. There isn’t anything flippant to say about the reality of the difficulty. At least we know that when things are bad, the way things are, aren’t the way they always will be.

So keep your chin up. Keep your heart full. Stay faithful. Watch God fight for you!
