Good Friday, Cross Bearing, and Following Jesus

Helped by this? Tell a Friend! ---->

Jesus said if we want to be his disciples we must take up our cross daily and follow him (Luke 9:23). Jesus said this while he was on his way to Jerusalem to suffer and die on a cross.

Good Friday reminds us that Jesus is our leader and the leader always goes first. Hebrews 12:2 says we need to fix our eyes on Jesus as he is the pioneer of our faith. He is the trail blazer. If we are following him we have our eyes fixed on him as he goes first and we follow after.

Good Friday has a lot to teach us about discipleship. Jesus isn’t giving orders to us he isn’t willing to obey himself and that just grows and grows our love and admiration for him. Jesus is in the lead and we are called to follow him as his disciples.

When you go through hard things in Jesus’ name remember he went first and we follow him. This will help us get through a lot of hard things in this life knowing we aren’t doing it alone and we certainly aren’t first in line.

One Response

  1. Judging by the reaction of the saints in Acts, they thought of everyday as Good Friday. Which brings me back to “take up your cross daily and follow me”. We might celebrate one day over another, but none the less always we are the Lord’s everyday. Sunday and Wednesday have become the pinnacle of our moment of righteousness. We forget about the care for the helpless, giving another water, etc. or all of the things Jesus did daily.
