There is a law at work in our minds that must be repealed and replaced. It is a law that doesn’t have our best interest at heart. It is the law of sin that enslaves us to the desires of our flesh. Here is how Paul described it,
“21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.” – Romans 7:21-25
Repealing and replacing this law won’t take an act of congress. It won’t take clever craftsmanship to come up with an alternative. No. The replacement bill has already been signed by the creator of the universe and is now in effect for all those who will receive it. The difficulty we face is not that the old law is still in effect but that we were so accustomed to living under it that we struggle to fully embrace its replacement even though it is obviously far superior.
The new policy promises universal coverage. It promises coverage for pre-existing conditions. Do you know what the best part is? The premium has already been paid for all time by the grace of God. If we don’t break free in our thinking from the old way, we keep sending our monthly premiums, thinking that will keep our coverage going because we fail to appreciate how much better the new system is.
So stop sending those monthly payments…payments of guilt. Payments of shame. Payments of self-flagellation. Bask in the hope and joy of a new way of living and thinking thanks to God’s mercy and grace.
